What’s the Best Guilty Pleasure Anime?

I feel like guilty pleasure anime would be considered fan-service filled anime or anime that are popularly disliked. Ones that come to mind include Sword Art Online or Food Wars. After all, guilty pleasures are pleasures we feel ‘guilty’ about.

A series that popped up multiple times when I was looking up ‘guilty pleasure anime’ online was Keijo. It was ranked quite highly too in this category! Keijo is an anime series based upon the manga of the same name. The series is set in an alternative reality where a new, women-only gambling sport known as ‘keijo’ has quickly become a trend in Japan. ‘Keijo’ matches are conducted on floating platforms known as ‘Land’ in a swimming pool stadium. Players aim to push their opponents into the water using their breasts or butts. The story follows Nozomi Kaminashi, an Olympic athlete, who becomes a player to win the high earnings the game offers. While participating, Kaminashi defeats her opponents and learns about the ways to fame and fortune in a new sport with more challenges that she could have ever imagined.

What’s your favourite guilty pleasure anime? Have you seen Keijo, did you like it?

  1. Hmm, my guilty pleasure anime would be most vampire anime. They might have fairly poor writing and almost no character development, but I love them because there is just so many squee worthy moments! The first one that comes to mind is the BL anime Vassalord.

  2. Keijo!!!!!!!! is the best sports anime out there in my mind. And personally I wouldn’t consider something like SAO a guilty pleasure considering how popular it is.

My own guilty pleasure anime are all the low effort isekai anime that get churned out every season. The ones that basically no one, myself included, will remember a year later.

    1. Ooh that’s interesting to hear! SAO is suuuperrr popular but so many people seem to hate it?? It just seems super hit and miss within crowds depending upon demographics 🤧

I was thinking about it too – and I think for me a ‘guilty’ series is also actually KNB. Not at all because it’s not a good series though! I think because of my viewing habits that it’s made it ‘guilty.’ (Since I re-watch Yosen scenes every few weeks and have devoured every Yosen and Murasakibara scene I can find online and it’s just a bit embarrassing to admit how entranced I am with their dynamic and Murasakibara’s character 😭😭)

Oooh that’s such a good choice! Isekai’s are nice though in the regards that they all have pretty similar structures so they can be played in the background or picked up at different points!!

      1. I’ve always thought of it as feeling guilty because it’s bad or embarrassing to enjoy, but never thought about it in terms of viewing habits. Looking at it that way, there’d be a lot of series where I binged 12 eps in a single night that would fit the bill!
